A Student Game project that I worked on as a UX Designer and Level Designer.
Most of my work has been in implementing the new Unity Input System so that the game can be played with a gamepad. My work has been on making sure that this works with all UI in the game, alongside testing and making adjustments to the feel of the player controller so that movement and other gameplay feels right.
Additionally, I had designed the tutorial level, keeping an eye towards teaching the player quickly and effectively. This tutorial level had gone through several major revisions to reach it's final state, changing drastically each time. For a good chunk of development, the power-ups and movement abilities had not been separated out from the basic player control, and so I made a long tutorial to encompass all these features. However, it became too bulky and annoying for players to get through. This feedback pushed me to cut the length of the tutorial significantly, focusing instead on briefly showcasing only the most basic mechanics the player would need to interact with from the beginning of the game, and shortening the time between each lesson. This finished tutorial took experienced players only seconds to breeze through, while still being long enough for new players to learn what they needed to.
